Admission Requirements

To apply to the Veterinary Technology Program, complete the following steps in the order listed:

  1. Complete and submit an application for admission to the college.
  2. Forward an official high school (or GED) transcript and any college transcripts to the college. Have them mailed directly to:
    Columbia State Community College
    Office of Records
    1665 Hampshire Pike
    Columbia, TN 38401
  3. Forward ACT test scores to Columbia State, if applicable. Placement testing may be recommended or required depending on test currency, test scores, and/or prior college credit. All learning support requirements must be completed before program entry.
  4. Download the Clinical Experience Form and complete the required observation/shadowing.
  5. Prepare your personal essay: a brief history of yourself that answers the following questions:
    1. Why have you decided to pursue a career as a veterinary technician?
    2. What are the responsibilities of a licensed veterinary technician?
    3. What personal qualities do you possess that will help you succeed as a veterinary technician?
    The essay must be in digital format so you can upload it with your online application.
  6. Obtain a letter of recommendation/reference from a teacher or employer.
  7. Review the Veterinary Technology Program Student Handbook. To complete the electronic application, applicants must attest that they have reviewed and understand the Policy Manual and program expectations.
  8. Complete the electronic Veterinary Technology Program Application. The application deadline is March 1 each year. Have the following documents ready to upload in PDF format:
    • Personal essay
    • Clinical Experience Form
    • Letter of recommendation/reference

Review of applications will begin after March 1st deadline. Eligible candidates who have complete college and program applications will be invited to interview in April/May. Applications received after March 1st may be considered if the class has not reached maximum capacity. All learning support requirements must be completed prior to beginning Veterinary Technology classes. Class size is limited.

Class size is limited and admission is not guaranteed. New classes begin only in the fall semester.
