Middle Tennessee the Focus for Artist Paul Barron
Focus on Local Artists Continues
(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Oct. 20, 2011) - - - The Pryor Art Gallery at Columbia State Community College keeps the spotlight on local artists during the month of November, featuring the paintings of Paul Barron, a member of the Maury County Arts Guild. Barron's work will be on display Nov. 1 through Nov. 31. He will have prints available for sale.
Also on exhibit in November are the photographs of Columbia State Alumni, Drew Dunlop. Dunlop, who is a journalist and newscaster, will share his love of travel with visitors to the Pryor Art Gallery through his camera lens. Photographs of his travels to China and Europe will be on display Nov. 7 through November 30.
The subject of most of Barron's paintings is the surrounding Middle Tennessee countryside. "Each oil or pastel is a small vignette, evocative of a familiar atmosphere," says Lucy Scott Kuykendall, curator for the Pryor Art Gallery. "His paintings are fun, familiar and full of life. A walk through this exhibit will inspire you to pick up your sketch pad or paint box and easel, find your favorite get-away spot, and jot it down for yourself," continues Kuykendall.
Growing up near Niagara Falls, Barron had a dramatic introduction to the attraction of native landscape. He relocated to Spring Hill with Saturn/GM in 1991 and he brought his family and love of nature with him. In addition to painting for pleasure, Barron frequently teaches at the Spring Hill Art Center. "I particularly like doing the local paintings because they show the common, simple everyday world we live in for its beauty," said Barron.
