Pharmacy Technician Program
This comprehensive 50 hour online program will prepare students to work as pharmacy technicians in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam.
Pharmacy Technician Program includes:
- The history of pharmacy; and the retail, hospital, home health, mail order and institutional pharmacies
- The role of the pharmacy technician; drug regulations and controls and HIPAA
- An extensive review of Pharmacy Calculations and pharmacy math – critical to PTCB certification
- Drug Classifications and the “Top 200 Drug Review”; and major classes of drugs including top brand names and generic drugs
- Basic Biopharmaceuticals and a review of “Routes and Formulations"
- A review of Parenterals and Drug Compounding
- Aseptic technique and the handling of sterile products
- Prescription Interpretation; Parts of a Prescription Label; Parts of a Written Prescription; and Auxiliary Labels
- Inventory management and financial issues
- Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), demonstration of TPN admixture, hands-on practice of IV admixture; basics of IV solutions; calculating 24 hour supply of IV solutions; etc.
- National Certification: Students would be eligible to the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) national certification exam.
