Columbia State Community College will host two Annual Tennessee Emergency Medical Services Instructor Update events that are approved by the Tennessee State EMS Office on May 13 and August 12.
“This is welcomed news for Tennessee EMS educators,” said Greg Johnson, Columbia State coordinator and instructor of EMS. “Until this point, EMS educators have only had a few options to obtain their annual instructor update required under Tennessee law. These offerings give additional one-day options for our educators that may better fit their schedules. I am excited about the lineup of speakers at each conference. Each are respected in their field and promote excellence in EMS education.”
Through the efforts of Columbia State’s EMS Academy and the Workforce & Continuing Education Department, the two Annual TN EMS Instructor Update events have been approved by the Tennessee State EMS Office to satisfy the TCA 1200-01-12 rules for renewal related to attendance at annual instructor updates or conferences and includes 8 contact hours.
The first of the two offerings will be held on May 13 and will be headlined by Ashlyn Cornett, NRP and Laura Elliott, NRP, both educators from Fairfax, Virginia. The second offering will be on August 12 and will be headlined by Greg Applegate, Ph.D., MBA, chief science officer with the National Registry. Other notable speakers at both events included, but are not limited to, Katie O’Connor, MPP, NRP, educator and consultant with MedEd Sim; Shay Steel, BA, NRP with MedCognition; Brandon Ward, NRP State of Tennessee EMS director; and David Cauthen PSYD, NRP, Columbia State program director and associate professor of EMS.
These events will take place at the Columbia Campus in the Cherry Theater from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and will provide participants with 8 contact hours. Registration for each event is $125, with lunch provided at the event along with a reception the night before at the Hampton Inn in Spring Hill. The reception, sponsored by MedCognition, will be at 6 p.m. and offers attendees time to network while enjoying beverages and light hors d’oeuvres.
