Pryor Art Gallery Hosts 2018 Student and Faculty Art Exhibit
(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Oct. 12, 2018) - - - Columbia State Community College's Pryor Art Gallery will host a Student and Faculty Art exhibit Oct. 18 - Nov. 14. An artist's reception will be held Oct. 18 from 5 - 8 p.m.
"Our last student and faculty exhibit was a great success," said Michele Wilkinson, Pryor Art Gallery curator. "There is so much talent to be found in our Columbia State community and this opportunity gives our students and faculty an opportunity to showcase it."
Guests will see a variety of art utilizing different mediums and styles.
"Past student and faculty shows have exhibited paintings, drawings, photos and sculptures," said Herbert Cobb, Columbia State associate professor of art. "This is an opportunity for students to exhibit their work in a professional setting and for faculty to display their current works."
Clifford Gordon, Columbia State assistant professor of art, said that art exhibitions are frequently overlooked by young artists.
"They don't understand how valuable exhibits are to their career," Gordon said. "Our annual student art exhibition incorporates opportunities for significant student learning that extends beyond the studio experience. By learning the skills and concepts needed to exhibit their own work, students better comprehend the meaning and place of art and themselves in society."
The Pryor Art Gallery is in the Waymon L. Hickman Building on the Columbia Campus. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. For additional information, please visit www.ColumbiaState.edu/PryorGallery. For more information about the Pryor Art Gallery, contact Michele Wilkinson at 931.540.2883 or at mwilkinson2@ColumbiaState.edu.
