Columbia State to host Core Ensemble
(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Sept. 25, 2017) - - - Columbia State Community College will host Core Ensemble Oct. 2 at 12 p.m. in the Cherry Theater.
Core Ensemble will perform the chamber music theatre work "Los Valientes, The Courageous Ones," which is a piece dedicated to celebrating Hispanic heritage. Chamber music theatre is a unique performance format developed by Core Ensemble that combines a theatrical narrative and chamber music.
David Perez will portray the artistic and political passions of Diego Rivera, the unwavering commitment to human rights of Archbishop Oscar Romero and the pursuits of social justice by Joaquin Murietta. Perez will be accompanied by pianist, David Berry, whose music score was inspired by a wide range of Latin American composers, including Astor Piazzolla and Osvaldo Golijov. A question and answer discussion will be held following the show.
"Los Valientes" is a wonderful celebration of Hispanic heritage.
"We are excited to offer this vibrant arts performance to our community in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month" said Wes Dulaney, Columbia State director of international education and assistant professor of biology. "This will be a unique experience that will engage students in the Hispanic arts and history."
Since 1993, the Core Ensemble has toured in every region of the United States and internationally to Australia, England, Russia, Ukraine and the British Virgin Islands. The Core Ensemble has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the state of Florida Department of State and Division of Cultural Affairs, The Palm Beach County Cultural Council and the Aaron Copland Fund for Music.
The event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the International Education at Columbia State. The Cherry Theater is in the Waymon L. Hickman Building on the Columbia Campus, located at 1665 Hampshire Pike.
