Jam Sessions Have Much To Offer

Laughter, conversation, and of course, music are just a few of the things you will find at the Jam Sessions hosted by the Lyceum Committee at Columbia State Community College. They take place every Tuesday evening around 6:30 p.m. at Columbia State's Jones Student Center cafeteria.

"We've shared several songs, told lots of stories, and everybody has a good time," said Tom Winters, network administrator at Columbia State. "It is the beginning of a very good thing."

The jam sessions - which started in June 2009 - are laid back events where musicians of all levels get together to play "improvised" music and socialize with others who share an interest in music. Instruments present at the July 28 session included guitars, a fiddle, and even a mandolin. All instruments are welcome.

"Someone once brought a bongo drum to a session," said Winters, discussing a jam session he attended in Murfreesboro. "You wouldn't think it would fit with some of the music, but it worked quite well."

The events are free and open to the public. Dancers, singers, and spectators are welcome.

The Jones Student Center is located behind Finney Memorial Library on the Columbia Campus as 1665 Hampshire Pike, Columbia Tennessee.
