Columbia State Welcomes New Dean of Extended Services & Williamson County Campus
Columbia State Community College announced the hiring of Dr. Shanna Jackson as the new Dean of Extended Services and Williamson County Campus. Jackson comes to Columbia State from Volunteer State Community College where she served the Director of Off-Campus Services and most recently as Executive Assistant to the President.
"It is a great honor to become a part of the Columbia State family. I am looking forward to working with faculty, staff, students, and the communities that we serve throughout our nine county service area, including Franklin and Williamson County" said Jackson. "My goal is to develop strong relationships with my internal and external constituents. I believe these partnerships will be essential to positioning Extended Services to be responsive to community and workforce needs."
As Dean of Extended Services, Jackson will be responsible for providing leadership, oversight, planning, management, supervision and evaluation of programs and services provided through the Office of Extended Services, collaborating with and providing direction to the Extended Services Directors for ongoing development and effectiveness of centers, campuses, areas, and programs, recommending, developing, and administering budgets for operational area, supervising, evaluating, and serving as backup if needed to staff assigned, representing the college to the community to assess the needs for extended, business, economic and workforce development and community services classes and programs, working collaboratively with the office of Advancement for planning and resource development for extended service areas and being proactive in review, identification and planning of programs and services for continuous improvement, innovation, and developing the institution to be current while positioning it for strength in longevity as a quality educational institution.
Jackson will also be responsible for facilitating communication with Extended Campus Directors relative to implementing applicable college-wide policies and procedures and changes therein, serving on college committees as appropriate, participating as appropriate in the search process for employees, and performing other duties as directed by administrative supervisor. She will also oversee Economic and Workforce Development and Evening and Community Services.
During Jackson's tenure at Volunteer State, she was a member of numerous civic organizations and professional affiliations such as the United Way of Sumner County Board, the Lebanon Chamber Education Committee, the Mt. Juliet Chamber, the Lebanon Kiwanis Club and the Robertson County Chamber Education Committee. She is currently the Immediate Past President of Women in Higher Education in Tennessee, Vice President of Societas Docta, Inc., and serves on the Tennessee College Association Executive Board and Tennessee Scholars Advisory Board.
Columbia State is a two-year college, serving a nine-county area in southern Middle Tennessee with locations in Columbia, Franklin, Lawrenceburg, Lewisburg and Clifton.
