COLUMBIA STATE HOSTS BELMONT UNIVERSITY STUDENT STRING QUARTETS PERFORMANCE

Performance to be Held at the Williamson County Public Library on November 15

(Franklin, Tenn. - November 1, 2010) - - - Columbia State Community College's Lyceum Committee, in conjunction with the Williamson County Public Library, will host a student concert featuring classical and jazz string quartets from the Belmont University School of Music on Monday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Williamson County Public Library. The program will include the Mozart String Quartet in F Major, K. 590 performed by the Classical String Quartet. The Jazz String Quartet will perform selections by such artists as Herbie Hancock and Thelonius Monk. The event is complimentary and open to the public.

"The Williamson County Public Library is pleased to partner with Columbia State Community College in presenting the Belmont University Student String Quartets," said Janice Keck, Director of the Williamson County Public Library. "Our patrons have enjoyed many musical performances over the years and are looking forward to hearing these fine young musicians."

In May 2010, the Classical String Quartet was featured at the Renaissance Center Chamber Series in Dickson. Members of the Jazz String Quartet were featured performers for the Middle Tennessee Band and Orchestra Association Mid-state Clinic held in Murfreesboro last January. In addition, both ensembles have contributed performances for the Tennessee Music Educators Association State Conference. The Classical String Quartet is coached by Elisabeth Small and the Jazz String Quartet is coached by Tracy Silverman. Students in the ensembles come from Texas, Colorado, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Arkansas and Connecticut.

Members of the ensembles perform regularly at Belmont University. Upcoming November appearances include performances by the Jazz String Quartet in Massey Concert Hall and a public Master Class with renowned multi-genre cellist, Mike Block. The Classical String Quartet will perform in Harton Recital Hall as well as a community service performance for Assisted Living residents.

The Williamson County Public Library is located at 1314 Columbia Avenue in Franklin.
