"9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL" CLOSES 2011-2012 FIRST FARMERS PERFORMANCE SERIES AT COLUMBIA STATE

Final Performance Thursday, April 26 at 7 p.m.

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - March 30, 2012) - - - On Thursday, April 26, "9 to 5: The Musical" comes to the Cherry Theater as the final show of the 2011-2012 First Farmers Performance Series. With music by Dolly Parton, the one-night-only performance by Columbia State Community College's Commercial Entertainment Department students begins at 7 p.m.

Tired of poor treatment from the boss, "9 to 5" tracks three secretaries who decide to exact a little revenge and prove that they can run the office without him. Zaniness happens as they kidnap the boss and take over the company.

"The music in this play is timeless," said Cathy Hudnall, the Commercial Entertainment program director at Columbia State. "The production's music and dance numbers rival any professional troop and the story is full of the fun that the original movie and Broadway show held for audiences in the 1970s."

Beth Duffield, development officer for alumni and community relations and events at Columbia State, notes that the student performances are always the most fun part of the Performance Series. "We love to showcase our students," she said. "The Commercial Entertainment students are dedicated to the performing arts and to turning their natural talents into a career."

"The opportunity to see this Broadway hit show is a real treat for all of us," Duffield said.

Tickets for the performance are still available and are $15 for adults and $10 for students. You can reserve tickets by calling (931) 540-2879, or they can be picked up in advance in office 108 of the Pryor Administration building. Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover are honored. The ticket office at the Cherry Theater will open one hour prior to the performance in 100A of the Waymon L. Hickman Building.

The Performance Series is made possible by First Famers and Merchants Bank and the Columbia State Community College Foundation.
