Columbia State educator and administrator, Dr. Douglas O. Eason responded to an ad from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Museum was willing to loan a large variety of plaster casts of major pieces of sculpture on a long-term basis to qualifying institutions willing to make selection of pieces, transport them to a new home and properly house and insure them.
In the summer of 1979, the John W. Finney Library received 13 casts of Greek and Roman sculpture. These pieces had been housed in a New York warehouse for a number of years, and upon their arrival it was necessary for several workers, faculty members and a few months to spend more than two months cleaning the plaster casts.
The 13 pieces are now displayed throughout several buildings on the Columbia campus, primarily the Library.
