Advising & Registration
Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students with less than 24 credit hours!
Incoming freshmen and transfer students with less than 24 credit hours have three ways to register for fall classes:
- An in-person appointment with an advisor
- Virtual Registration Hotline (appointment recommended)
- Registration Round-ups (appointment recommended)
Currently Enrolled Students - Are you on the right path to graduate?
- Meet with your advisor to review your academic plan now to graduate on time!
- Schedule an online appointment with your advisor through your Student Success Portal (or email your advisor).
- Current students should meet with advisors before the end of the Summer semester to register for Fall.
Do I need to meet with my advisor before I choose classes?
Yes and No! You have three ways to register for classes.
- Your advisor will appear in myChargerNet (under "Student Services," click the "My Advisor" icon) and you will be able to make an individual appointment using the Student Success Portal (please note, appointment scheduling requires 24-hours notice). You may also email your advisor to schedule an appointment.
- Register for a slot and log in to the Virtual Registration Hotline.
- Register and attend an in-person Registration Round-up.
Notes regarding Registration:
- If you are a first-time freshman, or a transfer student with less than 24 credit hours, you will be assisted by a college staff member to select classes. (See choices above!)
- If you have no other holds to prevent registration, you will be assigned to a College Success Advisor within 72 hours of completing your orientation. You will have an advising session with your College Success Advisor regardless of how you select classes for fall.
- If you do not see an assigned College Success Advisor within 72 hours of completion of orientation, please email ChargerCenter@ColumbiaState.edu from your Columbia State email address, and include your legal name and A#.
- If you are a transfer student with 24 or more accrued credit hours, you are not required to complete orientation, and you will be assigned to a faculty advisor in your program of study.
- All students are encouraged to contact their advisor if they are uncertain of what to take or have issues relating to the completion of the semester. For more detailed information about advising, visit Advising Services.

What if my advisor doesn't have appointments set up in the Student Success Portal?
