Columbia State Community College recently announced John Maher Builders as the official sponsor of the Chargers athletic programs for the 2024-2025 academic year.

“We are thrilled to welcome John Maher Builders as the corporate partner of the Chargers Athletics Department for the 2024-2025 year,” said Katie Willingham, Columbia State athletic director. “Their commitment to excellence and innovation closely matches with our values, and we are excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring to our athletes and programs.”

Jack Maher, president of John Maher Builders, met with athletes, coaches and other Columbia State staff to present a $10,000 check from John Maher Builders as the students kick off a new fall semester and their respective seasons. These funds will be used in various ways to enhance the athletic programs and student success.

“It’s our partners that allow us to do the extra things that we can do to give the edge for our students and their success,” said Dr. Janet F. Smith, Columbia State president. “So to John Maher Builders, thank you very much, and also thank you for being such great community members. If you watch the news and look around, you’ll see how they interact with their community in so many ways. We appreciate what you’re doing for Columbia State, but also really appreciate what you’re doing for the community.”

“This is about you guys — it’s about the athletics and the academics,” Maher said. “Sports in school is a big part of my family’s life. I’ve got three older sisters. We all played sports all the way through. I was a college athlete, so I know what it takes to do this. So it’s a big deal to do it, it’s a big commitment. We’re happy to help in every little way we can. We’re just excited for the partnership!”

“We are happy to have Jack come out and meet some of the students they are supporting,” said Bethany Lay, Columbia State vice president for advancement and executive director of the Columbia State Foundation. “We want athletes to be successful in their sport and in their chosen program of study and know that is important to John Maher Builders as well.”
