Columbia State Community College’s Pryor Art Gallery will feature the exhibit “Maury County Courthouse at 120,” in partnership with the Maury County Archives to feature art from a competition to highlight Columbia's courthouse at 120 years old. The exhibition will be open to the public from May 13 until June 14.

“It has been a pleasure to collaborate with Maury County Archives and Tom Price to highlight the importance of the history and architecture of Maury County's Courthouse,” said Lisa Hoffman, Pryor Art Gallery curator. “As offices move to a new building soon, this art competition has created interest in possible future usage of this historic building.”

Tom Price, director of the Maury County Archives, recently hosted an art competition to highlight Columbia's courthouse at 120 years old with the assistance of the “Arts Build Communities” grant from South Central Tennessee Development District. As part of this grant, the winners and all art submitted to the competition will be displayed in Pryor Art Gallery.

Submitted art was juried by five artists which included local photographers Sarah Gilliam and Ross Jaynes, as well as painters James Spearman and Margaret Warfield and sculptor Jennifer Grisham. Grisham and Jaynes will also display their art in the exhibition as well.

The opening reception and artist talk, which is also free and open to the public, will be May 13 from 4 – 6 p.m. Price will be in attendance as a special guest and speaker at the reception to discuss the competition and the history of the courthouse and its architect.
