Support Staff Council Raises Funding, Provides Scholarship Opportunity
(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Dec. 24, 2018) - - - The Columbia State Community College Support Staff Council's "Chili/Soup Luncheon" fall fundraiser raised enough funds to award three student scholarships.
Fifty-five students submitted scholarship essays as part of the application process which were judged by the Support Staff Council members. Other scholarship requirements included that students were currently enrolled and attending Columbia State, have a 2.0 GPA or higher and an up-to-date and completed FAFSA.
"I wish we could have awarded all students with scholarships because they are all so deserving," said Kellie Gwin, Columbia State administrative secretary for student affairs and Support Staff Council representative. "The council had a tough time selecting the winners from this year's application pool."
Scholarship winners, Breanna Ray (Lynnville); Tanner King (Rockvale); and Angel Cervera (Spring Hill) were appreciative of the $400 scholarship and all said that the funds will help pay for textbooks and other course fees.
