2013-14 Men’s Basketball Team Recognized for Achievements
(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Feb. 13, 2015) - During the halftime of a recent basketball game, the 2013-14 Columbia State Community College men's basketball team was honored with a banner for their accomplishments during last year's season, including a national tournament appearance.
Members of that team were Ivan Alsup, Urus Benechek (Cumberland University), Arturs Bremers (North Carolina A&T), Matt Brown, A.J. Dodd, T.J. Dunans, Kendrick May, Ikeem McLendon-Bergeron, Justin Pride, Sha'Karee Scaife (Tennessee Wesleyan), Matt Smith (Cal State-Bakersfield) and Antione Williams.
The Chargers won the regular season championship in their conference and closed the season ranked third in the Tennessee College Athletic Association Region 7 tournament and tthey were able to move on to the national tournament after receiving a wild card bid. At the 2014 National Junior College Athletic Association Men's National Basketball Tournament, they made it to the Elite Eight.
Arturs Bremers (Latvia) earned a 2013-14 NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award for Superior Academic Achievement and is now attending North Carolina A&T.
T.J. Dunans was named to 2014 all-tournament team at the national tournament and was ranked as the number one community college guard in the country. He was twice named NJCAA Player of the Week. Dunans has committed to play for Auburn University in 2015-16.
Coach Brian Collins was named 2013-14 TCCAA Coach of the Year.
