MLK BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION TO BE HELD IN CHERRY THEATER

Performance Free and Open to the Public Tuesday, Jan. 15

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Jan. 7, 2012) - - - Columbia State Community College is set to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday on his actual date of birth with a celebration kicking off in the Cherry Theater at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15. The keynote address will be delivered by the Rev. Trent Ogilvie, pastor of Bethel Chapel AME Church in Columbia.

In the spirit of King's "I Have a Dream" speech, Ogilvie's address will challenge participants to "Dare to Dream: Changing Your Mind to start a Movement."

The evening includes musical selections from Emily Gaskill, assistant professor of music at the college, in addition to a special recital from Praise dancers and a saxophone tribute to King from Cord Martin, band director at Whitthorne Middle School.

The public is invited to share in this joy-filled evening, marking what would have been King's 84th birthday. The Cherry Theater is in the Waymon L. Hickman building on the Columbia campus.
