Lowell F. Senefeld, the Buckeye Division, and the Liberation of the South Pacific and the Philippines
Dr. James Senefeld will present a program based upon his father Lowell F. Senefeld's World War II photographs and Internet photographs of his Army division. He was drafted in October 1941 in Indiana and served until July 1945, leaving Manila, in the Philippine Islands, for home in Franklin County, Indiana. He was in training at Army bases in Indiana, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania, and served from March 1942-1945 in the 135th Field Artillery, 37th Ohio Infantry Division, known as the "Buckeye Division.” The 37th Division saw combat in the Pacific War from July 1942 until July 1945, stationed first in New Zealand, and then "island hopping" for three years seeing combat in the Fiji Islands, Guadalcanal, Bougainville in the Solomon Islands, and the Philippine Islands.
