Planning Council Minutes - November 14, 2007

Members attending: Paul Jennings, Diby Kouadio, Kay Fleming, Cathryn McDonald, Kelly Stinnett, Mike Shuler, Dan Opalewski, Ken Horner, Chaitram Talele, David Ogden, Debbie Long, Emily Siciensky, Linda Horner, Nancy Ramsey.
Invited Guest: Dr. O. Rebecca Hawkins, President

1. President’s perspectives on issues impacting the College
• Dr. Hawkins discussed key issues that could impact the College over the next several years and should be considered by the Planning Council as we look toward the future.
• Points of discussion included change of College leadership, state and local initiatives, Williamson County campus, adult learners, post-Geier era, and future funding needs. Dr. Hawkins emphasized the potential for future budgetary constraints as we are nearing the end of a seven-year “sales tax cycle” and sales tax revenue begins to level off. She also emphasized the budgetary impact that Williamson County growth will have on Columbia State and the increasing importance of raising private funds.

2. Two vice-presidents will discuss their areas at the November 28 PC meeting:
• Planning and Development
• Financial and Administrative Services

3. Please mark your calendars for two future meetings:
• December 5: Identification and discussion of potential 2008-09 initiatives
• January 23: Discussion and recommendation of 2008-09 initiatives
