Letter from the President
Williamson County is a unique blend of the old, the new and the possible. It is a vibrant society for living, working, and playing with an impressive future. The area’s rich educational legacy has created a solid foundation for growth and sustainable development and the partnerships between business and community strengthen the economic progress of the region.
It is my vision that Columbia State will be a full partner with business, government, education, and community in advancing and growing the future of Williamson County. Thus, it is my great delight that we have turned dirt to build a new college campus, the Williamson Campus, which will grow to meet the higher education and training needs of this area.
The potential of individuals and the economic development of our communities are at the heart of the college’s work. Our mission is to provide individuals with viable, quality learning options for meeting their educational and life goals – goals that provide a pathway to prosperity for them and their families. Statistics bear out that unemployment rates are consistently lower for those with certificates and degrees beyond high school.
At the Williamson Campus a student can obtain an associate’s degree that transfers to a university for continued study in their field of choice without loss of credit and at a tremendous cost savings. Technical career students, degree or certificate, may seek training for specialized occupations in business, IT, health care, etc. Other programs of the college include partnering for development of a robust workforce, offering seminars and interest courses for all ages, and serving special populations like our veterans.
You and I have a vested interest in the success of this opportunity. It is not often that a community builds a college campus from the ground up! It will be a grand time to one day look back and say “We made this happen for Williamson County – We made a difference for others that will extend far beyond our lifetime.” Join me and accept this invitation to be part of the future – now!
Dr. Janet F. Smith
Columbia State President
